🥃 Hickory Bourbon BBQ Sauce Recipe

Ingredients (makes ~1 1/4 cups):

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup bourbon (or whiskey)
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 2 tbsp molasses (optional, for depth)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika (hickory flavor)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Optional: 1 tsp liquid smoke if you want extra smokiness

🔥 Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir constantly until it starts to simmer.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  4. Taste and adjust:
    • Sweeter: more brown sugar or honey
    • Tangier: more vinegar
    • Smokier: more smoked paprika or liquid smoke
